Government come and go but this particular government has shown much concern for our dear head porters on the street who have nowhere to sleep after a tough days work.
Alert Gh during our explores have come across an interesting hint concerning the government’s decision to build a hostel for head porters in Agbogbloshie coming 2020.
Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has said that the government will commence the construction of a hostel to house head porters in Accra.
The hostel, he said will be built at Agbogbloshie in the Central Business District of the capital where most of the head porters mostly of northern extraction operate.
President Akufo-Addo during the 2016 electioneering campaign promised to ensure that a hostel is provided to house the mostly homeless and helpless head porters.
Little have been heard of the promise since he assumed office in 2017.
But the Finance Minister during the presentation of the 2020 Budget statement said the government will fulfill this promise in 2020.
” ‘Preparations are now complete and the construction of the first 600-bed kayayei hostel will commence in Agbogbloshie next month to provide accommodation and skills training to these vulnerable young women…,” he promised when he spoke on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday.
